Dirty Sodas, Locally Roasted Coffee and Plenty of Frozen Treats Are Coming Close to Home

Morning coffee runs and evening ice cream outings are coming together under one roof when Foxtail Coffee Co. opens its new Hamlin Porter location.

The Winter Park-born coffee company has become a familiar Central Florida favorite, known for its locally roasted coffee, welcoming café atmosphere and menu of espresso drinks, cold brew, teas and seasonal creations. The new shop will offer spacious indoor seating along with Foxtail’s selection of beverages and food.

The café’s interior also features a colorful mural inspired by a Brazilian coffee farm, bringing part of the coffee-growing story to the walls of the new shop.

A Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream counter will add locally handcrafted ice cream, rotating featured flavors and dairy-free options to the mix. The pairing makes the new location an easy stop whether the craving calls for caffeine, dessert or a little of both.

This will be the second Foxtail Coffee location in Horizon West. The company also operates a café in the Summerport community in the Village of Bridgewater.



One helpful note for mobile orders: Foxtail identifies the new store as Hamlin Porter, so that is the location name customers should select when ordering through the Foxtail app or website.

Mayday Ice Cream

Grand opening Sept. 17

Mayday Ice Cream is already welcoming guests in Horizon West, but the Florida-born ice cream shop will make it official with an all-day grand opening celebration Sept. 17.

Mayday is known for handcrafted ice creams made with premium ingredients and unexpected flavor combinations, like Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie, Passionfruit Golden Milk, Blueberry Toast Crunch, Coffee + Donuts, and 21+ options like Gillespie’s Bourbon Pecan. Each batch is slow-churned to create the brand’s signature rich, velvety texture.

Grand opening guests can enjoy one free fun-size scoop in a sugar cone per person. Early arrivals will have a chance to take home a little extra Mayday swag, too. The first 20 people in line will receive a free Winter Garden T-shirt, while the first 50 will receive a free Winter Garden sticker.

Guests can also enter to win a Mayday merchandise gift basket loaded with a $500 gift card, location-specific T-shirts, stickers and more. According to the event details, guests will receive one giveaway entry for each item purchased.

The shop is open from noon to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Vivoli il Gelato

A taste of Florence is coming closer to Horizon West when Vivoli il Gelato opens its newest location at Flamingo Crossings Town Center.

The name may already be familiar to Walt Disney World regulars. Vivoli operates a shop at Disney Springs, serving traditional Italian gelato, espresso drinks, specialty sundaes and its popular gelato-filled creations.

The original family-run gelateria traces its roots to Florence, Italy, where the Vivoli family began the business in 1929 and started making gelato a few years later. Its long history and location near Florence’s Basilica of Santa Croce have helped make it a well-known destination for visitors seeking authentic Italian gelato.

The new Winter Garden location will offer an extensive menu that goes well beyond scoops and cones. Rotating flavors include cannoli, pistachio, tiramisu, salted caramel and Biscoff, along with fruit-forward sorbetto options.

Guests can also choose from specialty affogatos topped with espresso, shakes, floats and elaborate sundaes such as the Sicilian Cannoli Coppa and Fragola Balsamic Coppa.

One particularly tempting offering is the Bombolato, which fills a warm Italian doughnut with the guest’s choice of gelato. The menu also includes cannoli, tiramisu, bomboloni, croissants, panini, salads and Italian café staples such as espresso, cappuccino and café latte.

The Flamingo Crossings shop will be located just outside Horizon West, but it will be especially convenient for residents of the nearby Hickory Nut and Ovation villages. Its Sept. 18 debut brings the celebrated gelateria beyond Disney Springs and closer to home for west Orange County residents.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, at 9 p.m. on Sept. 17, the team will welcome guests for a sneak peek at the shop and give away 500 affogatos to the folks who show up. This is before the shop’s official opening, at 10 a.m. the following day.

Swig

Horizon West is about to get “dirty” when Swig opens its new Hamlin drive-thru.

Founded in Utah in 2010, Swig helped popularize the dirty soda trend, combining familiar soft drinks with flavored syrups, fruit, purées and creams. Guests can order one of the brand’s signature recipes or customize a drink by choosing the soda, flavors and add-ins.

Among Swig’s best-known selections is the Raspberry Dream, which mixes Dr Pepper with raspberry purée and coconut cream. The Dirty Dr Pepper adds coconut flavor to the classic soda, while The Founder combines Diet Coke with coconut cream, fresh lime and coconut.

Guests visiting during the opening weeks can also explore Swig’s limited-time fall menu. Seasonal creations include Spice Spice Baby, made with Dr Pepper, vanilla, cinnamon, pumpkin pie sauce and half-and-half, and Caramel Apple, a blended combination of Diet Mountain Dew, green apple flavor, green apple purée, frozen apples and caramel drizzle. Autumn Blush offers a soda-free option with water, apple, raspberry, mango purée and vanilla cream.

The menu extends beyond dirty sodas with sparkling and still-water refreshers, customizable Swig Energy drinks and sweet treats such as cookies and pretzel bites. Many drinks can also be made with sugar-free flavors.

Located in front of Urban Air Adventure Park near New Independence Parkway and Hamlin Groves Trail, the approximately 1,000-square-foot shop is designed around drive-thru service. That means residents will be able to pick up a customized drink without leaving the car.

With four celebrations packed into a little more than a week, Horizon West residents can start with coffee, explore two very different takes on frozen dessert and finish with a fully customized dirty soda. The only difficult decision may be which new favorite to try first.
