More than 100 residents gathered at West Orange High School on Sept. 1 for a Property Tax Town Hall focused on proposed Constitutional Amendment 3, which will appear on Florida’s November ballot.

Orange County District 1 Commissioner Nicole Wilson and state Rep. Leonard Spencer hosted the informational event. Orange County Tax Collector Scott Randolph, Windermere Town Manager Robert Smith, Winter Garden City Manager Jon Williams and Oakland Town Manager Elise Hui also participated in the discussion.

Panelists explained the proposed changes to Florida’s homestead exemption and discussed how they could affect property owners, local government revenue and the funding of community services.

Wilson described the event as an “incredible turnout and thoughtful discussion” and thanked the panelists, moderator and West Orange High School for participating.

The town hall was intended to help residents better understand the amendment and make an informed decision, rather than advocate for or against the proposal.
