The article that follows is from the team at Center for Health Improvement and is one of these "Good Life Journey" resources. It presents valuable insights on different aspects of life that contribute to overall health and wellbeing.

Being Mindful About Food, Movement & Emotions Nurtures Your Body

Many choices impact life. The places we live and work, the friends we keep, where we go and what we eat, unknowingly and over time, quietly influence our mental and physical health. The key is to surround yourself with resources and support that make living a healthy life easy, comfortable and convenient.

Luckily, Horizon West provides support systems and the environment needed to address areas important for lasting health. From parks, bike trails and fitness clubs to easy access to healthy foods, dining establishments and healthcare, this community is built for those interested in healthy living.

✔ Social interactions and spending time with family, friends and neighbors influence well-being. Strong social ties are linked to a longer life. Engage in a variety of social relationships to help reduce stress, improve immune health and provide a more positive outlook on life. Join gatherings in neighborhoods, churches or local eateries. Take advantage of green areas that provide space for family fun or to meet new friends.

✔ Physical activity is vital for health at any age. Being physically active outside every day improves sleep, energy, and physical and mental health. Find something you really enjoy and will continue to do, like walking on trails, playing sports or joining a running club.

✔ Eating the right food impacts mood, energy and overall health. Identify ways to make heathy eating a priority. Pick restaurants with healthy options, shop for groceries and cook at home more often, or eat local fresh fruits and vegetables every day. Find area resources on nutrition to help you pay attention to what you eat and to support healthy new behaviors.

✔ Managing stress improves mental and physical health thru incorporating activities such as talking to friends, practicing yoga, embracing coaching/therapy sessions, taking time for self-care and being more physically active.

✔Preventative care health check-ins with your medical provider help to maintain personal health. Health checks keep you moving in the right direction.
