Meet Horizon West's Famous Steel Drum-Playing T-Rex

Hamlin Resident has Delighted Race Participants Since 2019!

If you have participated in Bears Who Care 5K or any of the Florida Running Company races that pass through the Hamlin area of Horizon West Town Center, you’ve likely enjoyed a joyous moment along the course — a T-Rex playing a steel drum!

Today, we would like to introduce you to the local resident responsible for bringing that surprising delight to life. Sarah Walter, a resident of The Cove at Hamlin, is the joy maker in the dino suit who has been cheering for local runners, joggers and walkers for over three years, creating moments of happiness for them.

Originally from Queens, New York, Sarah moved to Florida in 2013 to take a job with our famous neighbor, the Walt Disney World Resort. She and her wife later built a new home in Horizon West in 2019. Having enjoyed races at Disney venues, they were grateful to have found local races running right through their neighborhood in Hamlin.

When Sarah was unexpectedly injured prior to the 2019 Florida Running Company’s 12Ks of Christmas Race, she opted to do something else that she enjoys — cheering as a spectator. Sarah immediately knew the T-Rex suit that had traveled the world for some epic travel photos was exactly what she needed to wear! And after receiving a steel drum for Christmas later that year, she decided to “up her spectator game” and has been plunking away as the steel drum-playing T-Rex ever since!

Sarah says she has a blast supporting her wife, friends and local community in this way and she plans to keep appearing as the T-Rex for races that pass through Hamlin. If you see Sarah on the course of your next race, say “hi,” take a photo with her, and tell her how much you enjoy seeing her incredibly unique brand of spectating!

You can tag Sarah on Instagram @thejugglernaut. Please make sure you tag @horizonwesthappenings, too! We love seeing the community enjoying all aspects of Horizon West and we enjoy re-sharing your posts.

We especially appreciate people like Sarah who jump right in to “create what they want to be a part of,” enlivening the community with their exuberance! Kudos, Sarah!
