OCLS to Move Forward with Horizon West Library

Feb 26, 2021

Horizon West is One Step Closer to a New Library

Horizon West's explosive growth has brought an influx of new families and residents, and many have been asking when our area will have a library of its own. Orange County Library System (OCLS) has heard these requests!

Some exciting developments have transpired that bring OCLS one step closer to realizing a library in the Horizon West community. During the November 12, 2020 Board of Trustees Meeting, the Library Board approved a resolution, which selects the Horizon West “East Parcel” – located at the intersection of Tiny Road and Hamlin Groves Trail – as the preferred location for the Horizon West Branch Library.

Then, in January 2021, the Library Board voted to commit to purchase a parcel of land at the location, which is near the northeast corner of the future Horizon West Regional Park. This action allows OCLS staff to proceed with all the things necessary for negotiating the land purchase. After an appraisal is conducted and a contract is established, these documents and findings will be brought back to the Library Board for consideration and approval at a future meeting.

Many factors will influence the timing of a Horizon West branch coming to fruition, but these steps are moving the process forward. As OCLS works on development of a future branch in Horizon West, they want to hear your feedback!

Please take a moment to submit a short survey about your expectations for our local Horizon West branch.
