Florida’s Back-to-School Tax Holiday Helps Families Save
Stock Up on School Essentials Without the Sales Tax

As families prepare for a new school year, Florida’s annual Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday offers a helpful opportunity to purchase many of the supplies, clothing and technology students need while keeping more money in the family budget.
The 2026 tax holiday runs from Monday, July 20 through Thursday, Aug. 20. During this monthlong period, shoppers will not pay sales tax on qualifying purchases that fall within the state’s price limits.
What Qualifies?
The tax exemption applies to a wide range of back-to-school essentials, including:
- Clothing, footwear, backpacks, handbags and wallets priced at $100 or less per item
- School supplies priced at $50 or less per item
- Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles priced at $30 or less per item
- Personal computers and qualifying computer accessories priced at $1,500 or less when purchased for personal or home use
Eligible school supplies include notebooks, binders, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, folders, lunch boxes, rulers, scissors, glue and poster board. Families can also save on many everyday clothing items, including shirts, pants, dresses, jackets, socks, shoes, school uniforms and athletic apparel.
Qualifying technology includes laptops, tablets, calculators, printers, headphones, keyboards, computer mice, routers, flash drives and non-recreational software.

Plan Ahead and Save
With a full month to shop, families have time to review school supply lists, take inventory of what they already own and compare prices before making purchases. Eligible items bought online may also qualify when the order is accepted during the tax holiday for immediate shipment.
Price limits generally apply to each individual item, not the total purchase. Some products, including cellphones, video game consoles, jewelry, watches and most books, are not included. The exemption also does not apply to eligible items purchased at theme parks, entertainment complexes, hotels or airports.
