Home Improvement Giants Set Their Sights on Horizon West
Two Home Superstores are in Store for Horizon Westers
Home Improvement, Closer to Home
Horizon West residents have reason to celebrate, as two of the nation’s largest retailers are planning major investments that would bring more home improvement offerings to our ever-growing community.
Plans filed with Orange County show that mega home improvement retailers Lowe’s and Home Depot are making their way to Horizon West, though opening timeframes for both superstores have not been announced.
These two retail giants will join Toole's Ace Hardware of Hamlin, opened in 2024, in a series of exciting new shopping solutions for Horizon Westers who have long had to travel to neighboring retail centers in Winter Garden and Clermont for their home improvement needs.
For Horizon West residents, the impact of these two retail giants moving into town is straightforward: a wider variety of home improvement options, sprawling garden centers and shorter drives for emergency home improvement needs.
Location, Location, Location
Lowe’s is proposing a new store in the Hamlin East area of Town Center that will sit on nearly 25 acres of land northeast of State Road 429 and New Independence Parkway along Hamlin Groves Trail, just north of the existing Walmart Supercenter.
Home Depot is pursuing plans for a new Horizon West location that will sit in the Silverleaf South part of Horizon West's Town Center. The site is west of State Road 429 between Schofield Road and the future State Road 516 extension, with future access from Valencia Parkway as surrounding infrastructure develops.
While construction details are still in development, Lowe’s filed its Horizon West plans with Orange County in mid-August 2025 and Home Depot followed suit in December, putting new retail options a step closer to reality for residents.
Of course, filings are just one step in a longer process. Until crews finish the buildout and the doors officially open,
these are strong possibilities for our area, not guarantees.

Homeownership Soars in Horizon West
Together, the new Lowe’s and Home Depot locations reflect the scale and speed of Horizon West’s homeownership growth, with the Orlando Business Journal publishing U.S. Census Bureau results showing that our community has seen a population spike from 14,000 residents to 58,100 between 2010 and 2020.
With the planned arrival of these two home improvement juggernauts, it's clear that Horizon West is steadily becoming its own self-sustaining community.
