Orange County Trash and Recycling Collection Days Changing Soon

Horizon West Residents Will See New Pickup Schedules Starting Dec. 29, 2025

What's Changing?

Starting Monday, Dec. 29, 2025, Orange County Utilities will introduce new curbside collection days for all services, including recycling, garbage, yard waste and large item pickup. Service will remain weekly, but the assigned days will shift as the county rolls out more efficient, standardized routes.

All Horizon West residents are Orange County Utilities customers, so every household in the community has the potential to be affected by this change.

Some residents may see a new hauler servicing their home as Orange County has announced a new partnership with GFL Environmental Services! You may see for their lime green trucks around Orange County.

How to Look Up Your New Pickup Days

Residents can find their updated schedule at ocfl.net/CollectionSchedule. When searching your address, enter your house number and street name separately. Use only the street name — no directional letters (E, W, N, S) and no endings like Rd., St., Ave., or Dr..

After searching, click on the parcel number associated with your address. You’ll see both your current schedule and your new one that begins Dec. 29.

If you need assistance, call the Solid Waste Hotline at 407-836-6601 or email Solid.Waste@ocfl.net.

Why the Schedule Is Changing?

Residents have expressed concern regarding the change, which for many now involves trash and recycling being collected on separate days.

Via Facebook, officials explained, "The adjustment in pickup days was determined using data and lessons learned over the past ten years of automated curbside collection in Orange County. The collection schedule will be standardized across the county with this change, making for more efficient routes. It'll also resolve issues with pickups in tight areas like cul-de-sacs where limited room makes it difficult to set out two carts properly and service them without damage."

Who is Affected?

This schedule change applies only to households in unincorporated Orange County, which includes all of Horizon West. If you live within city limits — such as the City of Winter Garden or Town of Windermere — your collection schedule will not change, and the lookup tool will not work for your address.

If you live in Horizon West, now is the time to check your new collection days and be ready for the updated schedule coming soon!

What's Not Changing?

Trash, recycling and yard waste will still be collected every week, including holiday times. When Thanksgiving and Christmas fall on a regular scheduled day, collection will move one day forward for the rest of the week.

Household trash still goes in the cart with the green lid. Recycling in the cart with the blue lid. Yard waste must still be separated from household trash, and bundled/tied, bagged or in your personal trash can.

No changes are being made with regard to what is acceptable to be placed out for collection. Learn how to properly dispose of various household items and and access the "What Goes Where" search tool at HorizonWestMagazine.com/Waste.
