Traffic Relief is On the Way for One of Horizon West’s Most Talked-About Bottlenecks

Orange County's proposed Tiny Road Widening Project

Tiny Road, Big Changes

Relief is coming for Horizon West commuters! Orange County has officially greenlit the Tiny Road Widening Project, a long-awaited initiative aimed at improving safety, easing congestion and enhancing connectivity in our rapidly growing region.

With construction preparations underway, this project promises to transform Tiny Road’s narrow two-lane bounds into a more modern roadway fit for Horizon West’s bustling future.

Tiny Road, a vital artery connecting Summerport and surrounding neighborhoods to State Road (SR) 429, has long been a pain point for locals. Originally a rural byway, the road has struggled to keep pace with the area’s explosive growth.

With the help of local officials and community input, Tiny Road's future design will be set to accommodate Horizon West's growing public.

Community and Commissioner

Over the years, Horizon Westers have voiced concerns over Tiny Road's narrow width, sharp curves and lack of pedestrian infrastructure. These issues have only intensified as traffic volumes soar.

On March 12, 2025, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners approved funding for new roundabouts along with widening of Tiny Road, marking a significant milestone in a journey that began several years ago with community input and meticulous planning.

District 1 Commissioner Nicole Wilson, a steadfast advocate for the project, recently celebrated the decision on her Facebook page, noting, “This is a win for safety and quality of life in Horizon West. I’m thrilled to see Tiny Road moving forward!”

The Proposed Plan

The project, detailed on the official Tiny Road Study website, will widen the existing two-lane road to four lanes between Avalon Road and the SR 429 interchange.

The project spans approximately 1.5 miles and is expected to cost $18 million, funded through a combination of county resources and impact fees. Construction for Tiny Road has yet to begin, but will be underway once Orange County has secured the proper funding.

Orange County is taking a holistic approach to ensure that Tiny Road will meet the needs of all users. Explore images and details of Tiny Road's planned improvements below.

Key Features:

  • Improved Safety: Realignment of sharp curves and the addition of modern signage and lighting to reduce accident risks.
  • Pedestrian and Bicycle Access: New sidewalks and multi-use paths to accommodate Horizon West’s active residents.
  • Stormwater Management: Upgraded drainage systems to mitigate flooding, a frequent concern during Florida’s rainy season.
  • Traffic Flow: Enhanced intersections and turn lanes to keep vehicles moving smoothly.
  • Hamlin Groves Trail

  • Bridgewater Crossing Boulevard

  • Tilden Road

  • Bridgewater Middle School

Community at the Core

The Tiny Road Widening Project didn’t come together overnight—it’s the result of years of collaboration between residents, county officials and engineers.

Back in 2022, Orange County launched a feasibility study to assess the road’s challenges and gather public feedback, with community meetings seeing robust turnout.

Commissioner Wilson has emphasized that community input shaped the final design:

“We heard loud and clear that safety and accessibility were top priorities,” she shared in a recent post. “This project reflects those values while preparing us for future growth.”

Orange County’s commitment to transparency is evident in the
Tiny Road Study, where residents can still access study documents, maps, and ongoing construction updates.

Looking Ahead

Infrastructure upgrades like Tiny Road are critical to maintaining our community’s charm and livability as Horizon West continues its meteoric rise, welcoming new families, businesses and developments each year.

The widening project promises not only a smoother commute, but a safer, more connected Horizon West for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike.

While construction may bring temporary disruptions, the long-term benefits are undeniable. “It’s an investment in our future,” Wilson remarked. “Tiny Road won’t be so ‘tiny’ anymore—and that’s a good thing.”
