Working from home can leave you feeling cooped up. Some fresh air and a different environment can go a long way. Here at Horizon West Magazine, we recommend “co-working” at a public space. This method can open doors to perspective-shifting connections while also raising your mood and productivity.
There are plenty of options in our community that could be a perfect way to spice up your week.
Hotspots and Hidden Gems
Henko Cafe is a cozy, hidden gem inside Summerport that carries a quiet, quaint charm. There’s a lot to love about this warm and welcoming spot.
Walking in, you’re met with the smell of crispy home-baked pastries and the sound of soft jazz. Slide onto a couch or behind a table to open your laptop and work as long as you’d like. Or enjoy the outside air from an enclosed patio as you watch the cars go by and savor Guatemalan coffee.
This cafe is no stranger to remote workers enjoying the ambience and taking advantage of the space well into the afternoon, making this a fine option for anyone nearby.
After taking a steaming cup of coffee from a smiling barista, you can take your pick from menu items like homemade meals or pastries, which are temptingly displayed at the counter. Aside from food or coffee, it also provides wine and beer.
To those who live with pets the outdoor patio is dog-friendly. While animals aren’t allowed indoors, Henko cafe will cater to any furry friends with treats offered at the front counter. Restrooms and multiple outlets extend an invitation to stay as long as needed. It’s an oasis that can handle all of your needs, including free Wi-Fi.
Another standout is, Maple Street Biscuit Company, located in Hamlin Town Center where you can grab breakfast or lunch and slow sip on bottomless cups of coffee. The owner invites you to bring your laptop in while you dine.
Servers will be happy to host you at indoor tables or on the patio. Restrooms and Wi-Fi are offered, along with outlets to keep everything charged. Open 7 days a week from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Maple Street serves as a beacon of community, making this a smart choice for solo sessions or meetings.
Great Greek Mediterranean Grill hosts a welcoming atmosphere centered on community. Indoor and outdoor seating invites you to choose what’s comfortable. Quality, mouthwatering food is a convenient break and useful pick-me-up from whatever you’re working on. Like the other options on this list, Great Greek’s free Wi-Fi and charging ports support online activity.
Tucked inside of Hamlin’s Home State Brewing Co,
Filigree Coffee serves fresh blends from a coffee cart with easy access to comfy seating on couches or the patio. Flavor-packed pastries from local, small batch Buttermilk Bakery can hit the spot and keep the ideas flowing. Filigree will soon be moving into there own cafe space nearby in the same plaza.

Cafes Give Comfort
Going back to the basics, you can’t go wrong with these spots.
As a global franchise, Starbucks is famous and the obvious choice, with each store built around connection. While the pop-music atmosphere can be distracting, a pair of headphones can easily reset focus.
Each store is outfitted with amenities like seating and bathrooms. Free Wi-Fi is another plus, along with charging ports. Any of the five locations in Horizon-West (Lakeside Village, Hamlin Town Center, Flamingo Crossings (two locations) or The Mark) can provide a great space to connect and carve out a productive session.
Open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, Summerport’s Foxtail Coffee has the same amenities as Starbucks, with a small town feel. Work meetings are a breeze at Foxtail, strengthened by free Wi-Fi to connect without stress. For a sweet treat or quick break, consider swinging by the Kelly's Homemade Ice Cream right next door in that plaza.
My French Cafe, off of Winter Garden-Vineland Road in the Lakeside Village area, is open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.. With indoor and outdoor seating, this space welcomes workers no matter the preference. As you might expect, there’s a selection of fresh coffee and delicious French pastries. This cafe also offers a free refill policy for regular coffee and serves brunch all day.
A Workspace with Groceries to Go
It might seem a bit of a stretch, but the Publix at Waterleigh Village could be a perfect way to work outside the house and stock up on food for the week. Open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Publix is a consistent option.
What makes Waterleigh’s Publix special is a secluded second story loft with elevator and stair access. The area is covered in cozy wall couches and cafe tables. In store Wi-Fi and outlets make it laptop friendly. The upstairs area even has two bathrooms.
The dining area in Hamlin Cove’s Publix has tables and seating, which could be useful as well, allowing you a change of scenery as well as the ability to check an errand off your to-do list.
And, of course, both have grab-and-go snacks and meals, hot and cold food bars and the renowned "Pub Sub" to fuel your day.
We hope this guide leads to a new favorite spot. Happy co-working!
